PERFORMANCE

Performance extends Hannah Shillito's practice beyond the physical artwork, bringing together the body, language, participation and spectacle.

Through live interventions and immersive experiences, she explores questions of identity, value, visibility and the expectations placed upon women.

Often playful and provocative, her performances invite audiences to become active participants, blurring the boundaries between artist, artwork and viewer.

WHAT AM I WORTH?

Participatory Performance | Art School & UNSEEN, Hypha Studios | 2026

In What Am I Worth?, Hannah Shillito transforms her body into a living canvas, inviting strangers to consider how we assign value to others.

Wearing an anonymous morph suit and holding a sign bearing the question WHAT AM I WORTH?, Shillito places pens on the floor and invites visitors to write directly onto her body.

First performed at art school and subsequently presented as part of UNSEEN at Hypha Studios, the work explores identity, vulnerability, power and the ways in which our sense of worth is shaped by others.

Audience responses have ranged from words of kindness and encouragement to more unsettling and unkind remarks, exposing the unpredictable nature of public judgement. By surrendering control over the marks made upon her, Shillito allows the audience to become both participant and author, transforming her body into a collective record of human responses.

The performance asks a deceptively simple question: who gets to decide what we are worth?
